The Applet Collection
lectureonline.cl.msu.edu/~mmp/applist/applets.htm
[HTML, Java-Applet]
| Description: | The applets of the Applet Collection enable users to study simple physical systems in a playful way. They are idealizations of realistic scenarios, which follow the proper equations that also govern the real experimental systems. The applets cover a broad range of physics topics such as dynamics, oscillations and waves, thermal physics, optics, electrostatics and electrodynamics, quantum physics, and nuclesr physics. |

Fear of Physics
www.fearofphysics.com [HTML]
|
|
The Fear of Physics site actually should have been called No Fear of Physics: It is organised by a team of people that "love physics" and that "created this site to be a friendly, non-technical place for you to come and "play" with the laws of physics for a while." So it provides very instructive and sometimes funny virtual experiments predominantly dealing with concepts of classical mechanics. Nevertheless some aspects of other topics such as acoustics, atomic physics, or relativity are also considered. Besides this virtual experiments that come along with explanations, the service includes a physics directory and homework help that illustrates how to use physical laws and equations to solve special physics problems. more info

This report reviews methods of pattern recognition and event reconstruction used in modern high energy physics experiments. After a brief introduction into general concepts of particle detectors and statistical evaluation, different approaches in global and local methods of track pattern recognition are reviewed with their typical strengths and shortcomings. The emphasis is then moved to methods which estimate the particle properties from the signals which pattern recognition has associated. Finally, the global reconstruction of the event is briefly addressed. more info
